Nine-year-old boy killed in school bus accident

August 30: A nine-year-old boy has been killed in an accident at Samarzingkha in Thimphu. The victim was a class two student of Lungtenphu Primary School.

He died after the school bus he was traveling in went off the road at Samarzingkha at around 7.30 yesterday morning.

11 other students have been injured. Nine of the injured are being treated at the Lungtenphu military hospital. Two others are undergoing treatment at the national referral hospital.

Doctors said they are all in stable condition.

There were 45 students in the bus when the accident took place. It was on its way to drop the students at Lungtenphu. The bus fell 30 meters below the road.

The Motor Transport Officer of the Royal Bhutan Army said the cause of the accident could not be ascertained and the case is under investigation.

Meanwhile, representatives from His Majesty’s Secretariat have been commanded to look after all the children till they recover as well as the family members of the deceased.

The Chief Operations Officer of the Royal Bhutan Army Major General Batoo Tshering and Army Officers also paid condolence to the family members of the deceased.
