6th PMC meeting begins in the capital

March 4: The 6th Project Monitoring Committee (PMC) meeting between Bhutan and India began in the capital yesterday.

The three day meeting will review the progress of Government of India (GOI) assisted projects in the 9th five year plan.

A news release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says almost all the GOI assisted projects are expected to complete within the 9th plan period. A three-member delegation from India has arrived in the kingdom for the meeting.

The delegation will also make field visits to GOI assisted projects such as the Punatsangchu Hydroelectricity Project, Jigmi Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital and the Simtokha Dzong.

The Project Monitoring Committee was established in October 2004 to streamline and improve the delivery of GOI assisted projects.

The committee monitors the overall progress and implementation of various projects and reviews major changes in the scope of the project and makes recommendations to the two governments as and when necessary.
