6 youth apprehended for drug abuse

September 13: The Narcotic Drug Law Enforcement Unit of the police has apprehended 6 youth for abusing drugs. They were apprehended at around 12:25 am yesterday morning below the City Branch of the Bank of Bhutan in the heart of Thimphu town.

Police said the group comprising five boys and three girls aged between 16 and 19, were found shouting. Police suspected them of having abused drugs and arrested them.

Police said the diagnostic testing kit result confirmed six of them of having abused drugs. Diagnostic testing kit is used to confirm doubtful cases. Using the kit, it can be confirmed within five minutes through urine test if the person has been on drugs or not.

And in another incident, Police have detained a 23-year-old man for beating up his mother under the influence of drugs. The incident occurred around 5 pm on Thursday, September 11 in Chubachu, Thimphu.

The man denied of having committed the act under the influence of drugs. But the diagnostic testing kit result confirmed that he had been on drugs.

Police say the man has been convicted for robbery, drug abuse and theft in the past.
