35 drug peddlers apprehended in just one week

May 28: The number of drug peddlers apprehended by police is on the rise. Just last week police have arrested 35 people for possession of drugs at the Phuentsholing gate.

The 35 arrested includes students, ex-monks, housewives, taxi drivers, school dropouts, businessmen, and private and government employees. They were apprehended last week over a span of six days.

Police seized the maximum consignment on May 25. Three men in their early thirties were found in possession of 60 bottles of corex, more than 1000 capsules, and 16 packets of marijuana leaves.

A spokesperson from the police said they have stepped up vigilance which has led to the arrests. He said all 35 will be forwarded to the Dungkhag court in Phuentsholing after investigation.
