January 11: Three women were killed on the spot when the truck they were traveling in went off the road in Monggar. The accident occurred near Sherichu at around 4:20 pm on Friday, January 9.

There were 18 people including the driver in the truck when the accident happened. All of them were roadside labourers working on drain maintenance with the Department of Roads.

They were returning to their camp from work. The truck plunged about 140 metres below the road. Three people were seriously injured and are being treated at the Monggar Regional Referral hospital. Eight others sustained minor injuries. They were admitted in Trashigang hospital. Five of them were discharged yesterday.

Four people who managed to jump out of the truck escaped unhurt. The cause of the accident is not known.
