October 19: A 23-year-old man is undergoing trial after being charge sheeted by the woman and child protection unit of the Royal Bhutan Police for attempted rape.
The incident happened when the minor and her family went to attend a religious ceremony at a friend’s place in July.
The man was caught red handed by the mother of the victim.
The alleged confessed to the police that he had attempted to rape the girl.
Upon medical examination the man was found mentally sound.
Under the penal code, statutory rape is charged under second degree felony with minimum nine years or 15 years of maximum imprisonment. |
