July 11: The youth centre at the swimming pool complex has come alive with about 145 students from across the kingdom participating in the Golden Youth Award Camp.

The Golden Youth Award camp was inaugurated by Her Royal Highness Ashi Chimi Yangzom Wangchuck on July 6. 145 students are participating in it. They were selected from the 20 dzongkhags.

The students are taking part in literary activities, dancing, acting, singing and even participating in social activities like cleaning campaigns to get their hands on the Golden youth award. The Golden Youth Award was initiated by the Youth Development Fund to recognize and reinforce outstanding qualities in Bhutanese youth and motivate the youth to work hard and be responsible and grow up as able citizens and leaders.

Speaking to BBS, some of the students said that they are working hard and participating in all the activities to be one of the golden youth. They said that they are having fun and enjoying their stay in the camp.

From among the 145 students, eight will be identified as the golden youth. Two out-of-school youth will also be identified as golden youth.

The award will be presented during the youth festival to be held on November 11 coinciding with the birth anniversary of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo.
